The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
