Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
